  • Simple Emulsified Body Butter

Ingredients Water Phase 50% | 75g Water 7% | 10.5g Vegetable Glycerin Heated Oil Phase 5% | 7.5g Jojoba Oil 9% | 13.5g Shea Butter 14% | 21g Sweet Almond Oil 3% | 4.5g Stearic Acid 10% | 15g Emulsifying Wax NF Cool Down Phase 1.5% | 2.25g Optiphen 0.5% | .75g Fragrance Oil Directions Prepare a water bath by bringing 1 inch of water to a simmer on medium-low heat in a sauté pan. In a heat resistant beaker, weigh out the water phase and add it to the water bath. Repeat this in a different beaker with the heated oil phase. After 20 minutes in the water bath, your oil phase should be fully melted and you can now remove both beakers from the water bath. Due to evaporation, your water phase will have lost a few grams, so you will need to add that back by putting your heated oil phase beaker on the scale, taring/clearing the scale, then pouring the water phase into the oil phase. The total amount of the water phase should be 85.5g, if this is not the case, pour hot distilled water into your mixture to bring it to 85.5g. Mix with milk frother or milk forther attachment for 1-2 minutes. Let your body butter cool for about 10 minutes or until the temperature is under 140 degrees Fahrenheit then add optiphen and fragrance. The most precise way that I have found to do this without wasting ingredients is to use pipettes. Your butter will begin to thicken as it cools. I typically scoop mine into a wide mouth jar about 2-4 hours after I have finished making it.

  • Whipped Body Butter

Ingredients Shea Butter - 2.5 oz Mango Butter - 2.5 oz Coconut Oil - 3.5 oz Sweet Almond Oil - 1 cup Arrowroot Powder - 1/8 cup optional Directions Melt down Shea butter, coconut oil, and mango butter using a double boiler or by adding them to a heat safe bowl and placing that bowl over a pot of boiling water. Once melted, remove from heat and add sweet almond oil Let mixture harden in the refrigerator for 1.5 hours After the mixture is semi-hardened, begin to mix with hand-mixer on high setting for 10 minutes. Mid way through mixing, add arrowroot powder then continue mixing. Store your whipped body butter in an air tight jar. Sweet almond oil can be substituted for another light oil. Arrowroot powder helps cut down the natural greasiness of the butters. If you do not have one of the butters, you can use the full 5 oz for either the mango or the Shea butter. Adding a harder butter to this recipe with result in a harder body butter.

  • Coconut & Oatmeal Milk Bath

Taking a milk bath is such a soothing way to end your day, but did you know that it also has amazing benefits? This DIY milk bath can help soothe itchy skin and provide relief for sunburn, eczema and psoriasis. Coconut Milk Powder Because I tend to use vegan products on my skin, I decided to use coconut milk powder for this recipe. Coconut milk has amazing hydrating benefits but can be switched out for whole milk powder which has more moisturizing properties. Colloidal Oats Colloidal oatmeal helps lock in moisture making it a great remedy for dry skin. These oats also help relieve itchy, inflamed skin. Epsom Salt Although we know that Epsom salt helps relax muscles, did you know that it can also soothe skin affected by eczema and psoriasis? Chamomile Not only does chamomile have great properties for consuming but it can also benefit the skin. Chamomile is an anti-inflammatory and also helps treat sunburn, soothe eczema, and helps to reduce skin irritants. Rose Petals Rose petals give off both a lovely look and fragrance but also have moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties Ingredients 1 Cup Coconut milk powder 1/4 Cup Colloidal Oats 1/4 Cup Epsom Salt 1/2 Cup Crushed chamomile/rose petals optional Directions Combine coconut milk, colloidal oats and Epsom salt into bowl, making sure that there are no clumps. Add crushed flowers to mixture. Mix. Using a funnel or spoon, add milk bath mixture to air-tight container and store in a cool, dry place. To use, pour desired amount into warm water and enjoy! If you are afraid that the flowers will clog your drain, I recommend putting the mixture in a mesh bag and sitting it in the tub.
